More than Rs 104.55 Cr Lost to Computer Fraud in Odisha During the Last 5 Years

According to statistics presented by Minister of State (MoS) for Home Tusharkanti Behera in the State Assembly today, over Rs 104.55 crore was lost to cyber fraud in Odisha during the course of the previous five years from 2018 to 2022 (up to February). The MoS stated in a written response to a question from BJD member Soumya Ranjan Patnaik that a total of 6,567 cyber fraud instances were recorded in the State throughout the course of the previous five years from 2018 to 2022 (up to February) and a total of Rs 1,04,55,53,958 was lost.

According to the facts provided by the MoS in his response, 2037, the most cyberfraud incidents—totaling Rs 40,39,70,514—were recorded in the year 2021. Behera added that according to Crime in India 2021, the rate of cybercrime in Odisha is 4.4 as opposed to the national average, which was 3.9.
