A Day After Bihar Triumph, BJP Moves to Suspend Former Union Minister R.K. Singh

In a significant move just days after the Bihar assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suspended former Union Minister R.K. Singh, citing continued cross-party remarks and alleged anti-party activities. The party has also taken similar action against senior leader Ashok Agarwal, giving both leaders one week to clarify their positions and submit formal replies.

According to the suspension notice, the disciplinary step became unavoidable due to the leaders’ persistent public statements that contradicted the party line. BJP sources told Hindustan Times that multiple complaints had surfaced against Singh, particularly during the recent Bihar polls, accusing him of making allegations against his own party colleagues.

The matter escalated further in October when Singh posted a message on Facebook urging voters not to support candidates with criminal backgrounds—remarks that indirectly targeted several NDA nominees, including JD(U)’s Anant Singh and BJP’s Samrat Choudhary, the deputy chief minister of Bihar.

What the Suspension Letter Says

The letter addressed to R.K. Singh, shared by news agency ANI, stated:

“Your activities are against the party and amount to a violation of party discipline. The party has taken this matter seriously, and it has caused harm to the organisation.”

It further added:
“Therefore, as per instructions, you are being suspended from the party and asked to explain why you should not be expelled. You are directed to clarify your position within one week of receiving this letter.”
