Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has lodged a plea with the Supreme Court, seeking an additional seven days of interim bail in a money laundering case related to the excise policy scam. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has stated that this extension is necessary for him to undergo PET-CT scans and other medical examinations. The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to the AAP leader until June 1, the final day of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections.
Additionally, it has directed him to surrender and return to jail on June 2. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in connection with the Delhi excise policy case following extensive questioning by an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team at his residence. This development posed a significant setback to the ruling party in the capital, particularly as prominent leaders like Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain were already incarcerated on corruption charges, and Sanjay Singh had recently been released on bail.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has characterized the excise policy case as “wholly fabricated” and emphasized that all individuals detained in connection to the case ought to be freed.
In a virtual press briefing, Kejriwal remarked that the BJP had implicated him, along with Sanjay Singh and Manish Sisodia, in a purported scandal linked to the Delhi Excise Policy for 2021-22. He underscored that despite conducting over 500 raids across the nation and making numerous arrests, no evidence of misconduct has been unearthed.
