As the sacred month of Sawan begins, the air fills with chants of “Har Har Mahadev”, and hearts turn toward Lord Shiva in deep devotion.
This holy month, drenched in monsoon rains, is believed to be especially dear to Mahadev, who is the destroyer and the most compassionate of the Trinity.
Devotees across India observe fasts, visit Shiva temples, and offer water, belpatra, and milk to the Shivalinga, seeking his blessings and divine grace.
Every Sawaan, when the skies are overcast and the rains fall upon us, we celebrate a season devoted to Shiva – The Supreme Force, a strength provider and the force that defines us. The milk offering to his idol is a reminder of liberating ourselves, no dwelling in the past, believing in the powers he possesses and seeking divinity under his spiritual influence.
With Lord Shiva being the ultimate destroyer of sins, and helping devotees atone, Sawaan is a time to detox our bodies, unclog from negative thinking and blend supremely in bhajans, and teachings of Shiva.
Men and women observe Sawaan Somvaars (Special Monday Fasts) to cleanse their minds and bring balance to their energies. Vegetarian food is preferred during these 30-45 days, helping men, women, and children to create a channel of constant connection with Lord Shiva.
People pray for the mind’s stillness, bring themselves to think clearly and seek the divine blessings and support of Shiv-Ji; for he is benevolent, giving us strength to live life and determine ways to seek salvation and make our journey in the world worthwhile and filled with amazement!
Hai Shiv-Ji, Oh Maheshwara, Jai Bholenath; May the Season of Saawan bring peace, prosperity, wealth and spiritual abundance to one and all! #AayaSaawanJhoomKe
