BDA Draws Rs 8000 Cr Plan For Proposed New City On Bhubaneswar Outskirts

A plan around Rs 8,000 crore has been created by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) to build the “New City” on 821.964 acres outside the capital city. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, claims that the BDA has already begun the project’s land purchase procedure. With housing for about 2 lakh people, the New City has been proposed in the Malipada, Daspur, and Gothapatana neighborhoods on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar city. The city will run on solar power.

“As per estimation, the proposed project will require an investment of Rs 8,169 crore of which Rs 6,069 crore has been pegged for built-up space and another Rs 2,100 crore for infrastructure. The Centre will provide financial aid for the project,” BDA vice-chairman Dr N Thirumala Naik said.

He also mentioned that the project was recently surveyed by a Center team. To improve connection to and from the New City, a four-lane road will be built from Naka Gate Square to Kateni. Connecting roads will also be built to alleviate traffic congestion. In addition to Bhubaneswar Metro Train connectivity, the city will have access to Mo Bus service, which will operate exclusively e-buses.
