On May 28, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which is led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, would be present for the opening of the new Parliament House in New Delhi. The national spokesman for the BJD, Sasmit Patra, stated in a statement that the Parliament represents India’s 1.4 billion citizens and that the President of India is the head of state.
Both organizations derive their power from the Indian Constitution and are emblems of Indian democracy. He remarked that it was important to always protect their status and standing.
“BJD thinks that these fundamental institutions need to be exempt from any matter that can compromise their sanctity and honor. Such topics may always be discussed in the Parliament at a later time. Consequently, the BJD will participate in this historic event, according to Patra.
Notably, a joint statement from 19 opposition parties, including the Congress and other regional parties, said that they would boycott the inauguration ceremony. They are requesting that President Droupadi Murmu, not the Prime Minister as was previously announced, inaugurate the new Parliament building.
