BJP-approved irrigation projects will be stopped by Cong, according to officials

Due to corruption, the Karnataka Congress government has decided to cancel two irrigation projects that were granted by Ramesh Jarkiholi, a former BJP minister.Ramesh Jarkiholi, a former minister and Gokak BJP MLA, had two irrigation projects approved, but the Congress government has decided to put a stop to them. The predicted costs provided by Jarkiholi were much higher than the actual costs, according to government personnel in charge of monitoring the projects.

The Gatti Basavanna Dam on the Markandeya River in his district was one of the projects that Jarkiholi gave his approval for. The major irrigation department’s initial cost estimate was for $969 crore, however it was later decreased to roughly $300 crore. The Ammajeshwari lift irrigation project, which was supposed to cost no more than 80 crore, was assessed to cost 747 crore by the department during the BJP administration, according to officials. They said, “The government decided to halt the projects due to the significant differences in the estimated costs.”An officer from the irrigation department’s project section, who wished to remain unnamed, claimed that the unit merely drafted the projects in accordance with the directives provided by higher authorities.
Despite the political conflict between Jarkiholi and irrigation minister DK Shivakumar, which ultimately resulted in the former leaving the party, officials claimed that the projects Jarkiholi had approved had been cancelled because of alleged corruption.
