This occurs several weeks after Amit Shah, the union’s home minister, promised that the law would be put into effect prior to the Lok Sabha elections. The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) guidelines have been notified by the ministry of home affairs, opening the door for the law’s nationwide implementation. The law facilitates the process of obtaining Indian citizenship for refugees who are Sikh, Hindu, Jain, Buddhist, Christian, and Parsi, and who are from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA-2019) Rules will be notified today by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024, will allow those who meet the requirements of CAA-2019 to apply for Indian citizenship. A web gateway has been set up to facilitate the submission of applications only online, as stated by the official X account. This occurs several weeks after Amit Shah, the union’s home minister, promised that the law would be put into effect prior to the Lok Sabha elections.

Additionally, Amit Shah had declared that the CAA was a national initiative. He gave minorities the assurance that no one’s citizenship would be taken away by the legislation. “The CAA is a national statute…It will receive notice before to the polls. There ought to be no room for doubt about that. Our nation’s minorities, particularly the Muslim minority, are being incited…There is nothing in the Act that allows the CAA to take away someone’s citizenship. At the ET Now-Global Business event in Delhi in February, Shah stated, “The CAA is an act to provide citizenship to refugees who were persecuted in Bangladesh and Pakistan.”
