The languages available for the Class X board examinations in the 2025–2026 academic year have been clarified by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The CBSE has affirmed that all currently spoken languages would remain accessible in response to worries over the exclusion of certain, including Punjabi. Following the release of a draft date sheet by the CBSE that mentioned languages but failed to specifically certify their inclusion, the correction was made. The list was only suggestive and not final, the board has recently declared.
All currently provided languages, including regional languages like Punjabi, Russian, Nepali, and others, would not change for the next academic year, the CBSE said.
“This is with regard to the draft Policy for the conduct of two Board Examinations of Class X released by the CBSE on its website on February 25, 2025. It is clarified that the list of other subjects and languages contained in the draft date sheet is only indicative and that all the subjects and languages as offered presently shall continue to be offered for 2025-2026 as well,” the addendum read.
In addition to the languages listed under the “Regional and Foreign languages group,” the CBSE stated that the board will continue to provide all other languages, including Punjabi, Russian, Nepali, Limboo, Lepcha, Sindhi, Malayalam, Odia, Assamese, Kannada, Kokborok, Telugu, Arabic, and Persian. To lessen student stress and give them more chances to do better, the NEP 2020 suggests holding the Class X and XII board examinations twice a year.
