COVID-19 Reaches Mount Everest As A Climber Tests Positive

Almost all the big cities are soaring up with the world deadliest virus – Covid-19. States like Maharashtra, Delhi, Odisha and other states are juggling up with the rising number of Coronavirus cases and the unavailability of oxygen are making the matter even worst.

But it’s not only the urban and rural area affected; the world’s highest mountain is also being affected by the virus. A Mount Everest-bound Norwegian climber confirmed that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a Facebook message, the climber quoted- “My diagnosis is Covid-19. I’m doing ok now… The hospital is taking care (of me).” As per the official news report, a helicopter evacuated Ness from the slopes and the climber was taken from the Everest base camp and later was hospitalized in Kathmandu.

According to Norwegian broadcaster NRK, a sherpa accompanying Ness and others has also tested positive. The climber further stated that he really hope that none of the others got the infection with the virus high up in the mountains as it is impossible to evacuate people with a helicopter when it is above 8,000 metres.

The climber further added that their plan was to get high up in the mountains fast to make sure that anyone won’t able to get infected. But unfortunately, the climber got infected even with all the sanitary precautions were taken by him.

According to a spokesperson for Nepal’s tourism department stated that it had not yet received any reports of COVID-positive cases among climbers. The infected climber was evacuated and was informed that he is suffering from pneumonia and is being treated in isolation.

As per the news report, Nepal was expected for a bumper mountaineering season after the pandemic which affected last year the most. But unfortunately, the fresh second wave of the infection is slowly spreading across the country and neighbouring India also.
