The dengue tally in the Odisha capital has breached the 1000-mark with the detection of 38 new cases in the last 24 hours. Since January 1, 1,009 people have been infected by the vector-borne disease and 98 per cent (997) of these cases have been reported in the last 41 days.
According to the reports, in January Bhubaneswar witnessed three cases while two more in February. Later, another 3 cases were added to the affected tally in March and 2 more in April and then two persons were found infected in June. The dengue infection count soared to 563 in July with the detection of 551 cases. The last 10 days of August has seen 446 new dengue patients.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed that 706 patients have been cured. Around 32813 breeding sites, including 32487 with larvae, have so far been destroyed. Fogging and anti-larval measures are being taken to contain the spread of the disease.
