Prabodh Tirkey, a former Indian hockey team captain, quit from the Congress after the party refused to provide him a ticket for the Assembly elections. He was a candidate from the constituency of Talsara Assembly. Prabodh sent a letter to Sarat Pattanayak, the president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), resigning from his primary membership in the party.
In his letter to the president of the OPCC, Prabodh stated, “I feel deprived from the unfortunate decision taken by the grand old Congress party of India.” No party leaders provided a good explanation for canceling my ticket. He described it as a humiliation.
In September of last year, Prabodh entered the Congress, marking his political debut. He was declared a candidate for the Assembly election by the Congress. Subsequently, Devendra Bhitaria was selected to replace him when he was refused a ticket.
