In the current fiscal year of 2024–25, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) achieved the fastest-ever loading of 100.57 million tons (MT) of freight in just 148 days, setting a new record in the freight transportation industry. This is an important turning point for Indian Railways overall and for ECoR in particular, demonstrating unmatched freight management efficiency. By contrast, it had taken ECoR 152 days to arrive at the same number during the fiscal year 2023–2024. With 3.282 million tons loaded as of August 26, 2024, the Railway has had a 3.37% increase in freight loading compared to the same period the previous year, when 97.288 MT was loaded.
All three of ECoR’s divisions—Khurda Road, Waltair, and Sambalpur—have performed remarkably well, and each Divisional Railway of ECoR has made a significant contribution to this success with a variety of freight categories. Important industrial hubs and ports that have contributed to this freight milestone include the KK Line, major industrial hubs like Talcher, Paradeep, Dhamara, Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram, Keonjhar, and steel and aluminum plants under ECoR’s jurisdiction.
Khurda Road Division contributed the most freight (64.32 MT), followed by Waltair Division (26.775 MT) and Sambalpur Division (8.575 MT) in terms of divisions. This accomplishment demonstrates East Coast Railway’s dedication to fostering the country’s economic expansion by guaranteeing the prompt and effective national delivery of necessities. With each new optimization of its operations, ECoR raises the bar for freight loading and transportation on Indian Railways.
