Families of Jaipur Hospital Fire Victims Allege Negligence: ‘We Had Warned Authorities Earlier’

“Only four to five patients were evacuated,” said Om Prakash, adding that his relative was on the verge of recovery and was expected to be discharged within a few days.

‘Alerted doctors about spark, but they ignored it’
Pointing to the hospital staff’s negligence, another relative, Jogendra Singh, said he had repeatedly warned the doctors about a spark that later turned into a massive blaze.

“When the spark appeared, I informed the doctors four to five times that it was coming from that area, but they brushed it off as normal,” he said.

Jogendra, whose mother was admitted to the ICU, recalled that once the smoke filled the ward, all the staff members fled, leaving the patients behind.

He further stated that while the police informed him that everyone had been evacuated, his mother and brother were still trapped inside. “I somehow managed to rescue my brother, but he is now in critical condition,” ANI quoted him as saying.

Relatives of the victims and survivors recounted their horrifying experiences after the fire engulfed the ICU, alleging gross safety lapses and negligence at the medical facility.

A relative of one of the deceased said that by the time the smoke thickened, the doctors and compounders had already fled. “The smoke started spreading around 11:20 p.m., and I had warned the doctors that it could cause breathing problems for patients,” Om Prakash told ANI. His 25-year-old maternal aunt’s son tragically lost his life in the blaze.
