Farmers Protest: Consensus On 2 Issues; Next Meeting On Jan 4

The farmers protest due to the three farms bills passed by the Centre is still going on. Recently the meeting between the protesting farmers and the Union Government over the agricultural laws was not settled.

But Narendra Singh Tomar, Agricultural Minister, stated that there is a raw of hope after the sixth round of talks at Vigyan Bhawan. He noted that the meeting was held in the right environment and was concluded on a positive note. The meeting lasted over four hours, and agreement on two out of four issues was reached between both sides.

The last meeting’s situation became a dead end with farmers as they sterned on their demands for a complete withdrawal of the laws. But the Centre did not accept the request of the farmer’s complete abolish of the laws. Due to which this meeting was held after a long gap, but the output was a little positive than the other conference.

The Centre disapproved of abolishing the agricultural laws demanded by the farmers, but the meeting was a far more amicable ambiance with the farmer’s leaders mingling with the Government representatives during the lunch and the evening snack time.

The farmer union heads stated that the government has offered to withdraw the electricity amendment bill and amend the ordinance to remove the penal provision on farmers in stubble-burning cases.

As per the reports, the next meeting will be held on 4th January.
