Fire Breaks Out at Housing Society in Mumbai’s Vidyavihar, One Dead, Several Injured

A fire broke out at the 13-storey Takshshila Co-operative Housing Society in Mumbai’s Vidyavihar early Monday morning, resulting in the death of a security guard and injuries to another. The blaze, which started around 4:35 am on Nathani Road, opposite Vidyavihar station, spread across five flats on the first and second floors.

Fire department officials swiftly responded, rescuing 15 to 20 residents. The deceased, Uday Gangan (43), suffered 100% burn injuries and was declared dead at Rajawadi Hospital. Another security guard, Sabhajit Yadav (52), sustained 25-30% burns and is undergoing treatment. The fire, categorized as a Level 2 incident, affected electric installations, wooden furniture, AC units, and household items before being brought under control by 7:33 am. Authorities are investigating the cause.

This incident follows a series of recent fire outbreaks in Maharashtra. On Friday, a chemical plant in Navi Mumbai’s MIDC Shirvane area caught fire, damaging machinery and materials. Similarly, fires were reported on Thursday at an industrial unit near Mahakali Caves in Andheri and multiple furniture shops at Azad Chowk, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Investigations into all incidents are ongoing.
