Amitabh Kant, the sherpa for India at the G20, claimed that the consensus on the New Delhi Declaration took several rounds of negotiations until it was finally reached late on Friday night.Getting everyone to agree on the G20 declaration wasn’t simple. Amitabh Kant, the sherpa for India at the G20, told NDTV that nearly 200 hours of “non-stop negotiations” were necessary to achieve a consensus among G20 leaders who disagreed on how the group should respond to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.India was able to establish consensus through a series of tough talks with China, Russia, and other important Western players, as well as with the support of Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia.
“Well done @amitabhk87! Looks lile the IFS lost an ace diplomat when you opted for the IAS! ‘Negotiated with Russia, China, only last night got final draft,’ says India’s G20 Sherpa on ‘Delhi Declaration’ consensus,” Tharoor wrote on X (formally Twitter).
