Oxford Vaccine By Serum Institute May Get Government Permission In India Before UK

Without the UK’s required approval, the Drug Controlled General of India (DCGI) may allow the emergency use of the Covidshield. According to two senior Government officials informed about the clearance of the vaccine shot.

If the clinical data by the Serum Institute of India (SII) is found excellent and adequate, then the DCGI may give clearance for the use of the shot as per the officials. The Drug Controller of India is expected to make a clearance to clear the process of the Oxford vaccine shot for emergency use in the next weeks.

As per the reports, the government committee for the approval of vaccine is still going through applications of at least three forms for emergency use in India, including Pfizer, Serum Institute’s Oxford vaccine, and Bharat Biotech.  As per the committee, they informed that they would release these vaccines to the public soon when the clinical data provided is satisfying.

According to the report of Mint, a discussion between the government and Serum Institute are under for procurement of Covidshield doses and a proper decision regarding it will be taken soon as early as this week.

The Serum Institute has submitted the additional data by the subject expert committee in the last review, which was on 9th December.  Covishield – Serum Institute’s version of the vaccine is being developed by Oxford University and British drugmaker AstraZeneca Plc.
