Heat Wave Alert in Nine States including Odisha

But on Tuesday, the IMD predicted that a western disturbance would bring thunderstorms to J&K, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab. As what could be a tougher summer than usual started to take hold across the nation, the weather service issued an orange alert for dangerously high temperatures in three states, West Bengal, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh. It also warned that heatwave conditions are likely in parts of four other states, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh. However, Tuesday’s thunderstorms in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab will provide some relief for some areas of India, according to the India Meteorological Department’s forecast.

An orange heatwave advisory denotes high temperatures with a higher risk of heat illnesses in persons who are either working hard or exposed to the sun for an extended amount of time. The warnings come a day after 13 people passed away at a government event in Maharashtra after spending several hours outside.Vulnerable individuals, such as infants, the elderly, and those suffering from chronic illnesses, are particularly at risk during periods of extreme heat. IMD has advised a variety of preventive measures, including drinking enough water (even if you’re not thirsty), ORS (oral rehydration solutions or electrolyte replenishments), or comparable home-made drinks to stay hydrated.
