In conversation with Deepti Menon

Deepti Menon is an author and educationist. She has written the book “Arms and the Woman” etc. Let us know more about her in the interview.

Q1) What inspired you to start writing?

Ans:- I have grown up in a family of readers, most of whom are capable of writing as well. Hence, it was a natural progression from reading to writing. I wrote my first poem at the age of ten and have never looked back since. The feeling that my writing would be read and savoured by others was a great inspiration.

Q2) How did you get the idea of your solo book? Also attach the link of the book.

Ans:-  I have six solo books to my credit. My latest book titled ‘Defying Destiny: Nalini Chandran – A Life Sketch’ has been written by two authors, namely Ms. Kalpana Ramesh and yours truly.

I have also three books which together are known as the Shadow Trilogy. They have been published by Readomania. The links are as follows:

Q3) “You have written all kinds of genres.” Which is your favourite genre?

Ans:- I have written all kinds of genres from non-fiction to poetry, thrillers to short stories and children’s literature to biography. However, the major bulk of my writing revolves around thrillers, and that remains, without doubt, my favourite genre.

Q4) Nowadays the reading habit has decreased of the youth. What is your take on this topic?

Ans:- The youth are living in a world that is more competitive than the one we lived in. As a result, their working hours have become longer, which leaves them less time to devote to their simple pleasures, like reading. In another sense, though, the mode of reading has shifted to devices like Kindles and tablets, in which whole libraries can be stored. So there are young people spending time reading while commuting, travelling or even while waiting to see a doctor. How one reads does not matter, whether it is a print book or on a device.

Q5) From curating a book to publishing it the process is really tough. How did you manage all this alone?

Ans:- Writing, I agree, is a lonely process that takes much time. However, once the writing is done, the publisher and the editor take over and hone the book to perfection through suggestions to the writer. Hence, the process is shared and together, a book gets created. Being a Readomania author helped as the process was taken over by the publisher, the editor and the designer.
