Amid intensifying clashes along the Cambodia-Thailand border, the Indian Embassy in Cambodia has issued a travel advisory urging Indian nationals to avoid traveling to the border regions. The advisory follows escalating violence that has left at least 33 people dead and dozens injured across both countries.
“In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas,” the advisory stated.
Indian nationals currently in Cambodia have been advised to remain vigilant and stay away from conflict zones. In case of emergencies, they are encouraged to contact the Embassy of India in Phnom Penh. The Embassy has provided a helpline number: +855 92881676, and an emergency email ID: cons.phnompenh@mea.gov.in.
The advisory comes amid a dramatic escalation in the long-standing territorial dispute between Cambodia and Thailand over their 800-kilometre shared border. What began as a routine military standoff has evolved into the region’s deadliest flare-up in years, with both sides deploying jets, artillery, and ground troops.
Cambodia’s defence ministry reported 13 fatalities — including eight civilians and five soldiers — while Thailand confirmed 20 deaths — six soldiers and 14 civilians. The death toll now surpasses the 28 lives lost in the previous major conflict between 2008 and 2011.
The Indian Embassy in Thailand also issued a similar alert earlier this week, advising Indian travellers to stay updated through official Thai sources, including the TAT Newsroom.
As the crisis deepens, the United Nations Security Council has called for an emergency meeting to address the border dispute and push for an immediate ceasefire. Cambodian authorities have reiterated their call for peace, urging a diplomatic resolution to prevent further loss of life.
With both countries being major tourist hubs, the situation remains fluid, and travellers are advised to exercise extreme caution.
