Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, India’s chess prodigy who made the entire country proud with his exploits in the Chess World Cup 2023, was greeted warmly at Chennai Airport. Pragg reached the World Cup final and so qualified for the candidate’s tournament, which will take place next year.R Praggnanandhaa became only the second Indian after the famous Viswanathan Anand to reach the Chess World Cup final, defeating Hikaru Nakamura and Fabia Caruana. Praggnanandhaa may have lost the final to the renowned Magnus Carlsen, but his exploits in Baku electrified the entire nation.
“I am very happy to see so many people coming here, and it is good for Chess,” Praggnanandhaa stated upon his arrival in the city.The 2024 Candidates competition will be an eight-player chess competition conducted in Toronto, Canada, from April 2 to April 25, 2024. The tournament winner will be the challenger for the 2024 World Chess Championship match.
Praggnanandhaa expressed his joy in a brief interview with the media, saying, “I feel incredibly honoured.” In addition, he stated, “I believe this is a positive development for the world of chess.”
