The Odisha Assembly was rocked on Friday when Congress members slowed down the House’s business by raising a commotion over the matter, hours after senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was expelled from the Parliament after his conviction in a criminal defamation case. While Congress members protested Rahul Gandhi’s exclusion from the Lok Sabha, the House repeatedly adjourned. The Parliament was afterwards adjourned till Monday by the Speaker.
The Congress MLAs went into the well during the post-lunch session and yelled anti-Prime Minister Narendra Modi chants, calling Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification “murder of democracy.” Rahul Gandhi has been made the victim of a pre-planned conspiracy, according to Narasingha Mishra, the legislative party leader for the Congress.
“His disqualification is like murder of democracy. Without respecting the democratic norms and practices, Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified in a haste. The Congress will move the higher courts in this regard and the truth will prevail,” Mishra said.
Rahul Gandhi was expelled from the Lok Sabha on Friday morning as a result of his criminal defamation case conviction. His Wayanad seat in Kerala was also declared vacant by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
