International View Point in the Rahul Gandhi’s remark on Modi surname remark

After being found guilty by a Surat court in a defamation case involving his remark about the “Modi surname,” Rahul Gandhi has been stripped of his right to serve as a Lok Sabha member of parliament. In reference to Congressman Rahul Gandhi, who was found guilty and later stripped of his parliamentary privileges in a defamation case involving his remark about the “Modi surname,” the United States stated on Tuesday that respect for the rule of law and judicial independence is a cornerstone of any democracy.

“We are keeping an eye on Mr. Gandhi’s legal situation in India and communicating with the Indian government about our common commitment to democratic values, which of course includes freedom of expression. Vedant Patel, the principal deputy spokesperson for the US Department of State, was quoted by ANI as saying, “In our interactions with our Indian partners, we continue to emphasise the significance of democratic principles and the protection of human rights and freedom of expression as key to strengthening both our democracies. After being found guilty in the defamation case, Gandhi lost his right to serve as the Wayanad district representative for Kerala’s Lok Sabha. His disqualification has brought India’s Narendra Modi government and the opposition to the brink of a major political crisis. He responded, “I don’t have any specific engagements to read out but as I am sure you know some of these covered this department for some time it is normal and standard for us to engage with members of opposition parties in any country where we have bilateral relationships, but I don’t have any specific engagements to read out.” When asked if the US is interacting with India or Rahul Gandhi, he said, “I don’t have any specific engagements to read out.” Rahul Gandhi is still resolute despite being barred from serving as an MP. The Congressman claimed to have only raised one question about the Adani problem during a press conference on Saturday. Gandhi declared that he will keep raising issues and fighting for democracy in India.
