Israel Resumes Strikes on Gaza, Over 200 Reported Killed

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has overturned the Gaza ceasefire agreement, leading to a new wave of deadly airstrikes across the region. According to Reuters, a senior Hamas official stated that Israel’s decision has put hostages in Gaza at risk.

The Israeli military confirmed it had struck multiple Hamas targets early Tuesday, ending the ceasefire that had been in place since January. Palestinian health officials reported at least 200 people killed, including children, and dozens more injured in the attacks. Among those killed was senior Hamas security official Mahmoud Abu Watfa, according to Hamas media.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israel Security Agency released a joint statement confirming the strikes, stating they were targeting Hamas positions. Netanyahu defended the decision, citing Hamas’ refusal to release hostages and its rejection of ceasefire proposals. “Israel will, from now on, act against Hamas with increasing military strength,” his office said.

Witnesses reported airstrikes in Deir Al-Balah, Gaza City, Khan Younis, and Rafah. The Palestinian civil emergency service confirmed at least 35 airstrikes. Meanwhile, Fox News reported that Israel had consulted the White House before launching the strikes.
