Q1) Welcome to our Exclusive Interview Section. We would love to know that how did you venture into sports. Did you aim for professional cricket first or it was something you loved.

Ans : I loved playing cricket since a very young age . I loved to play cricket since I was four or five years old . I even played with my father and told him to do the bowling when I was a kid . It was an undying love for cricket and I played it because I loved to play cricket.

Q2) When did you think of starting sports professionally?

Ans : When my father saw my interest in Sports , even he felt that I should join an academy to learn the sport in a much structured way . The best part was even my father used to play cricket during  his college days so they were very much interested into taking the sport professionally.

Q3) What was the first academy you joined and started playing from ?

Ans : I started my journey from LRS , Laxmi Ratan Shukla Sir’s Academy in Howrah and even now I practice there, so I was there since a very long period of time since I was of 9 years.

Q4) So everyone while they play any sport , or when they take up something seriously they encounter a lot of challenges. What were few of the challenges that you have encountered in this profession till now?

Ans: When I was a kid I used to play for the fun and joy aspect of it. But initially when I joined academy and started playing I actually saw a lot of people playing the same sport ,that made me think of the competition and I knew that I had to always put in that extra effort on a regular basis to stand out.

Then there was always a doubt that creeped in that what if this doesn’t work out or what about a Plan B .

Q5) So initially there were a lot of changes in your schedule like waking up early, taking care of your nutrition and exercises how did you cope up with that?

Ans :  One thing I learnt from cricket was that the hard work was not just on field . Off the field also we had to have a strict discipline . Be it waking up early, doing the usual regular practices even when at times we did not feel like.

Moreover maintaining  a proper diet was a challenge  at times  as we would see other people enjoying good food and I had to stick to my diet plans. It was hard initially but we try to cope up after a period of time as we love the sport

Q6) Cricket has always been a team sport and you learn the craft of playing from the Academy itself , Other than the sport what are things that you learn when you go out to play tournaments?

Ans: One thing that we really learn while we play outside is definitely the mental strength and toughness. Like there are players from different states and districts who travel for very long hours and their schedule and way of conduct teaches us a lot of things.

Also  as it is a team sport we learn to take the victories and the losses and work on them as a team.  We do share experiences with the athletes and learn a lot of skills too.
