The Odisha Government announced that the newly discovered COVID-19 mutant strain in the UK has not yet been found among the travelers who have returned to Odisha from the United Kingdom from last month.
PK Mohapatra, Additional Chief Secretary (Health Department), gave the information regarding the UK returnee and stated that all the UK return people to Odisha have been traced, and even the swab samples were taken. Later the swab samples of ones who tested positive for Coronavirus were sent to various laboratories for genome sequencing.
After the test, it was revealed that no mutant strain of COVID-10 was detected from genome sequencing of the UK returnees’ swab samples so far in Odisha. Around 204 swab samples were collected from UK returnees, and their contacts were sent for testing as per the protocols.
As of now, the new mutant COVID-19 was not detected in any of the samples, and only 7 UK returnee have tested positive for the Coronavirus in Odisha so far.
As per the reports, the new mutant strain of COVID-19 is estimated to be more contagious, and it was first detected in the UK in September. Due to which the Indian government ordered the ban of international flights to and from the United Kingdom.
