No Flood Threat In Odisha, Water Levels Under Control

All of the major rivers in Odisha are now running below the danger level, therefore there is no worry of flooding, according to Water Resources Department Engineer-in-Chief Chandra Sekhar Padhi on Sunday. Speaking to the media, Padhi stated that there is now no need for public alarm as water levels around the state are under control.

“At around 9 am, approximately 2.28 lakh cusecs of water entered the Hirakud reservoir. Meanwhile, about 1.32 lakh cusecs were discharged through six sluice gates, powerhouses, and canals,” he said.

Padhi gave information on other important reservoirs, pointing out that 855 cumecs were pumped into the Rengali reservoir and 703 cumecs were discharged. Just below its full capacity of 123.5 meters, the water level was 123.41 meters. The water level at Hirakud was measured this morning at 628.62 feet, which is lower than the reservoir’s full capacity of 630 feet. The department is always keeping an eye on the situation and is ready to handle any possible adjustments, the Chief Engineer said.
