Odisha babies born on Chandrayaan-3 landing day named after the lunar mission

A number of infants given the name “Chandrayaan” were born in Odisha’s Kendrapara district soon after Vikram, the robotic lander from the Chandrayaan-3 project, set down on the moon close to its south pole. This name was given to a total of four infants—three boys and a girl—who were delivered on Wednesday night at the district hospital in Kendrapara.

The parents expressed their happiness at their infants’ arrivals occurring at the same time as Chandrayaan-3’s successful Moon landing. One of the infants’ father, Pravat Mallick, stated, “It was a double thrill. A short while after Chandrayaan-3’s successful Moon landing, our kid was born. The baby will be named after the moon expedition, we have decided.

Local custom dictates that names are given to newborns after a puja on the 21st day following their birth. One of the kids’ mothers, Ranu, said that they would offer Chandrayaan as the boy’s name to the elders. She said that they may take names like “Chandra” or “Luna” into consideration because they share the same meaning as Chandrayaan, which denotes a conveyance to the Moon. During the 21st day puja, the final choice regarding the name will be made. Along with Pravat Mallick and his wife Ranu, inhabitants of other villages in the Kendrapara district, Durga Mandal, Joshnyarani Bal, and Bebina Sethi, also received their infants on the same day.

All of the new moms at the government hospital in Kendrapara indicated interest in naming their infants after Chandrayaan, according to Anjana Sahoo, the chief nurse there. She also recalled that other infants had previously been given names that reflected cyclones that had struck the coastal region. Dr. P. K. Praharaj, the hospital’s additional district medical officer, said that the parents feel fortunate that their children were born at this significant time in India’s Moon mission history. He said, “They want to honor India’s accomplishment in the Moon mission by naming children Chandrayaan.”
