Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi praised Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s presentation of the Union Budget 2026-27 on Sunday, calling it a “forward-looking and inclusive” financial blueprint with broad-based benefits across sectors.
In a post on X, Majhi defined the budget as one that creates new chances for youngsters, improves farmer security, incentivizes entrepreneurs, gives relief to the middle class, and respects workers’ achievements. “It aims to accelerate innovation, manufacturing, and employment while strengthening agriculture, rural development, infrastructure, tourism, culture, and knowledge traditions, thereby realising the mantra of ‘Development with Heritage’,” according to him.
The Chief Minister emphasized numerous items that are particularly pertinent to Odisha. He applauded the construction of the Rare Earth Corridor, which would stimulate mineral processing, research, and high-tech manufacturing in mineral-rich states like as Odisha. This project builds on previous initiatives to limit imports of vital minerals and develop domestic supply chains in strategic areas.
Majhi also highlighted the operationalization of National Waterway-5 (NW-5), which would connect mineral-rich districts like Talcher and Angul, as well as industrial hubs like Kalinganagar, to important ports like Paradip and Dhamra. This concept is anticipated to enable cost-effective, environmentally friendly cargo transportation while also adding skill development centers along the waterway to train and employ local youngsters.
