Odisha Congress goes all-out against Tata Power

On Tuesday, the Congress party took the agitation against Tata Power to the next level by launching rallies across Odisha. They were protesting claimed power outages in the state, despite colder temperatures brought up by the entrance of the monsoon. They also insisted that DISCOM always follow a 30-day billing cycle. Congress members were even seen throwing eggs and tomatoes at Tata Power offices in Nayagarh, Kendrapara, and Malkangiri.

Members of the Congress threw eggs and held a dharna in front of Tata Power offices in Kendrapara and Malkangiri. According to sources, the party organized protests in Kendrapara, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Berhampur, Rayagada, Sambalpur, and Nabarangpur.

MP Saptagiri Ulaka led the demonstration in Koraput, saying, “We want Tata Power to stop power cuts, false billing, mismanagement in power distribution, and rectify the low-voltage problem.” The Odisha administration should also present a white paper on the funds used to upgrade the state’s electrical infrastructure.” In its defense, Tata Power claimed that the power outages were caused by nor’wester showers, not load-shedding.

Not only are there power outages, but animosity of the DISCOM is developing for a variety of other reasons. For example, Debasis Mohanty, a lawyer in Jeypore, has filed a complaint with the consumer court accusing Tata Power of repeating excessive billing despite grievances.
