The Bay of Bengal has already geared up for the upcoming low pressure, soon turning into a cyclonic storm on May 24. The state government has put all coastal and adjoining districts on high alert.
According to the report around 14 districts have been put on a high alert due to the cyclonic storm ‘Yaas’ in the Bay of Bengal. Even the Odisha Government has also asked the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard to be fully prepared for the emerging condition. The Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea area of the central Bay of Bengal between May 23 and May 25 and into the north Bay of Bengal along and off the Odisha coast from May 24 to May 27.
To review the possible impact of cyclone ‘Yaas’ in the state, a meeting was conducted which included senior officers, Odisha Chief Secretary S C Mohapatra. He stated that the state administration is ready for the impact of the coming cyclone in the state.
Indian Metrological Department (IMD) predicted a cyclonic storm ‘Yaas’ which will cross Odisha West Bengal coast by May 26 mornings.
Indian Metrological Department (IMD) has yet to forecast the possible path of the system, its speed and landfall location. But Odisha has been gearing up for the challenge beforehand.
Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Jena stated that the DIG of the Indian Coast Guard has informed us that two of their flights and two ships are making rounds of the Bay of Bengal and they will rescue the fishermen if trapped anywhere in the sea. Even the Indian Naval Ship Chilika and Indian Navy authorities have been alerted, who are in touch with the state government.
