With the goal of conserving elephants, the Odisha government and the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) launched the “GajUtsav” campaign in Bhubaneswar today. The Department of Forests, Environment, and Climate Change’s Additional Chief Secretary Satyabrata Sahu, PCCF Debidutt Biswal, Sushil Kumar Popli, PCCF (wildlife), and Forest and Environment Minister Pradip Kumar Amat were present at the event’s launch.
Five elephant artworks created by regional artists and selected by renowned writer and artist Ina Puri were unveiled during the launch ceremony.A ceremonial passing of the baton came next. Through the state’s elephant districts, the innovative people-Private Partnership will advance the goal of bringing the Gajah (elephant) to the Prajah (people).
The festival featured a number of events, such as cultural shows, a bike rally, and educational seminars, all aimed at bringing attention to how crucial it is to preserve the enormous animal and its habitats. A media panel discussion on “Sensitive and Responsible Wildlife Journalism” marked its conclusion.
With funding from Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies and the Whitley Fund for Nature (UK), the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) launched the innovative GajUtsav campaign, which aims to increase public awareness of the need to protect India’s National Heritage Animal. This campaign has had a major influence on the Indian states that are home to elephants since it began in 2018.
