Odisha has seen an increase in dengue cases since the start of the state’s monsoon season. Up to 185 positive cases have been found in 16 districts of the state, including Khordha, which includes the state capital Bhubaneswar. Out of them, 96 are from the district of Khordha, 12 are from the district of Jajpur, 10 are from the district of Balasore, and the remainder are from other districts. This indicates that the Khordha district accounts for roughly 52% of the identified positive cases. 11,464 individuals were screened for dengue, and 185 of them had positive results.
5,981 people were tested at the same time period last year, and 353 of those tests came back positive for dengue.
“As of now 11,486 persons have been tested and out of them, 185 have tested positive for dengue. Out of them, 96 are from Khordha district which includes Bhubaneswar. During the corresponding period last year, 5,981 persons were tested and out of them, 353 had tested positive for dengue. Despite double the number of persons tested the test positivity rate is very low,” informed Public Health Director Dr Niranjan Mishra to reporters.
Standard operating procedure (SOP) has reportedly been published for all districts as a precaution, according to Dr. Mishra.
“All medical colleges, Capital Hospital have been instructed to keep beds, medicine and platelets stock ready for dealing with any kind of emergency. Adequate quantity of medicines, etc have been stocked up. So there is no reason for the people to worry. The reason being death percentage in dengue is around one per cent,” he clarified.
He said the accumulation of rainwater and puddles during monsoon creates a conducive environment for mosquitos to breed.
