The Cuttack district dairy product sellers association announced on Tuesday that prices for dairy goods including chhena and paneer will increase starting on May 1. According to the organization, the wholesale cost of chhena would increase by Rs 20 per kg, paneer by Rs 30, and khoya by Rs 60 per kg. The group attributed the increase in paneer and chhena costs to the rise in milk prices.
All dairy products start with milk, according to the association’s general secretary. Dairy products’ costs increase automatically when milk prices do. Not the retail price, which has increased, but the wholesale price. He cited the requirement for five liters of milk to produce one kilogram of chhena as an explanation for the price increase. Consequently, when the cost of milk was increased by Rs. We were compelled to increase the price of chhena by Rs 20 per kg. In addition, the cost of transportation has gone up. Although we have no desire to bother the customers, we are powerless.
The price of milk was recently increased by the government-owned OMFED (Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation) with effect from April 1, 2023. On all varieties, the federation raised the price of milk by Rs 2 per half-liter. It cited rising costs for packaging, shipping, cow feed, and other operating expenses as the cause of the price rise.
