After delivering Ram Charan’s biggest-ever opening day at the box office, Peddi is witnessing a noticeable slowdown in its theatrical run. The sports drama, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, has seen its collections drop sharply after a promising start, raising concerns about its long-term box office prospects.
The film, which stars Ram Charan alongside Janhvi Kapoor, opened strongly with an impressive Rs 69 crore net collection in India and crossed Rs100 crore gross worldwide on its opening day. By the end of its first weekend, Peddi had accumulated Rs137 crore net in India, positioning itself as one of the biggest Telugu releases of the year.
However, the momentum has steadily declined since then. The film recorded a drop of over 65% on Monday, followed by another 25% decline on Tuesday, when it managed to collect only ₹9.65 crore net. After six days in theatres, Peddi has earned ₹179.35 crore net (approximately ₹213 crore gross) in India.
While the film continues to perform well in the Telugu-speaking regions, its pan-India appeal has fallen short of expectations. Nearly 95% of the film’s earnings have come from the Telugu version, with the Hindi-dubbed release struggling to make an impact despite being screened in over 1,000 theatres. The Hindi version has reportedly crossed only ₹10 crore after six days, a disappointing figure considering Ram Charan’s popularity across the country and the presence of actors such as Janhvi Kapoor, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani.
Adding to the film’s challenges, Peddi has faced criticism online over the portrayal of its female lead. Several viewers have accused the makers of reducing Janhvi Kapoor’s role to a mere prop and presenting her character through an excessive male gaze. In response to the backlash, director Buchi Babu Sana issued an apology and reportedly assured audiences that the controversial scenes would be modified. Janhvi Kapoor has not publicly commented on the matter so far.
The film’s dramatic decline is evident from its journey from a ₹100 crore-plus worldwide opening day to daily earnings of around ₹13–15 crore by its first Monday. Industry observers believe the current pace could delay its march toward the ₹300 crore worldwide mark.
Initially expected to surpass the lifetime collections of films such as OG (₹295 crore) and Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu (₹300 crore) much earlier, Peddi now appears likely to reach those milestones only towards the end of the week, provided collections remain stable.
Despite its strong start and impressive opening figures, Peddi now faces the challenge of sustaining audience interest as newer releases approach the box office.
