Ratna Bhandar Repair Work To Be Halted Temporarily For Four Days

Beginning on March 31, the restoration of Ratna Bhandar at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri will be temporarily suspended for four days. The choice was made in light of the trinity’s key ceremonies, such as “Khasapadalagi” and “Bannakalagi,” which are scheduled for these days. In accordance with the state government’s Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) and the temple administration’s procedure, the work will continue on April 4.

Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, the Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), has asked for everyone’s support in this matter. The SJTA chief administrator stated on Saturday that Akshya Tritiya is anticipated to complete the restoration work following a pivotal meeting of the temple administration. Between the inner and outer Ratna Bhandar, five corroded iron beams were swapped out for stainless steel ones. He stated that chemical cleansing is under progress and that the stones are being replaced.

Since December 17, 2024, the temple treasure trove has been undergoing repairs. The goal of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which is working on the Ratna Bhandar’s restoration, is to finish the project in three months. The famed treasury of the 12th-century temple was reopened in July of last year for structural repairs and a treasures inventory after being locked for 46 years.
