“Revolutionizing Healthcare: The Rise of Preventive Genomics in Early Disease Detection and Personalized Medicine”

In India, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every four minutes, making it the most prevalent cancer among women in the country. Although the exact cause remains unknown, various risk factors can increase the likelihood of developing the disease. In about 10% of cases, abnormal genes inherited from parents cause normal breast cells to turn cancerous.

Early detection is crucial for both preventing and recovering from breast cancer. The online session ‘Decoding Breast Cancer Risk with Lord’s Mark’, hosted by Lord’s Mark Microbiotech Pvt Ltd in collaboration with Hindustan Times, aimed to raise awareness about the disease. It highlighted how preventive genomics can provide women with vital information about their genetic predisposition to breast cancer. Traditional screening methods, such as self-examinations, gynaecological check-ups, or mammograms, often identify the disease only in later stages, which can limit treatment options and negatively affect survival rates as the cancer advances to the tissue level.
