The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, attended a Ram Katha at Cambridge University that was led by spiritual teacher Morari Bapu. Sunak claimed that he did not attend the event in his official capacity as the Prime Minister, but rather as a Hindu. He saw it as an honour to be there at Morari Bapu’s Ram Katha on Indian Independence Day and began his address with a “Jai Siya Ram” chant.Sunak emphasised how his Hindu faith acts as a compass in all aspects of his life, giving him the strength to succeed in his position as British Prime Minister.
“I consider my relationship with my faith to be intimate and private. In every area I travel, it acts as a compass. While being prime minister is a big honour, there are also a lot of obstacles that come with the job. The position necessitates making difficult decisions and dealing with those choices. In these circumstances, our faith gives me the courage, tenacity, and resolve I need to make sure I do everything I can to advance the welfare of our country,” he said. The British Prime Minister made a point of comparing a golden Ganesha that adorns his desk at 10 Downing Street to a prominent golden depiction of Lord Hanuman that served as the background to Morari Bapu’s Ram Katha.
Sunak, who had just returned from a trip to the United States with his wife Akshata Murty, their kids Krishna, and Anoushka, and himself, gushed about how proud he was to be both British and Hindu. He spoke fondly of his early years in Southampton and the frequent trips he had with his family to the neighbourhood temple. He wrapped up his remarks by saying the stirring words “Jai Siya Ram” and then started performing an aarti on stage. While performing the ritual, Morari Bapu sought Lord Hanuman’s blessings and ‘limitless strength’ to help him in his endeavours to serve the people of Britain.
