In a statement to the Assembly on Friday, Minister for ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Nityananda Gond said that the Odisha government had compensated 2,116 victims of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) atrocities between June and the present with ₹20.34 crore. In response to a question posed by Congress MLA Sofia Firdous, Minister Gond said that the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Rules, 1995, were followed in allocating the compensation. He emphasized the importance of the Single Window Application Atrocity Compensation Assistance & Relief (SAACAR) web service, which was introduced in October 2020, in providing victims with prompt and clear aid.
In addition to ensuring that compensation is transferred straight to the victims’ bank accounts within 21 days of the case being registered, the site expedites the investigative process. All cases are now directly registered on the SAACAR site, officials said, removing any delays and guaranteeing responsibility. With 281 people obtaining compensation, the Bolangir district had the largest number of claimants. Jajpur (211), Puri (207), Cuttack (202), Dhenkanal (130), Ganjam (129), and Bargarh (107), are other districts with notable populations. Nevertheless, at this time, no compensation was given to victims in the districts of Malkangiri and Nabarangpur.
