Scrub Typhus Tally Goes Up To 292 With 20 Fresh Cases In Sundargarh

In the last 24 hours, up to 20 additional individuals in the Sundargarh district tested positive for scrub typhus. Twenty of the 74 blood samples sent for testing had positive results, according to Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Kanhucharan Nayak. With the additional cases, the district’s overall infection count increased to 292.

One patient had previously passed away from the illness, and an ICU admission for a critical patient had been made. Two locations—Rourkela Government Hospital and Sundargarh District Headquarters Hospital—offer scrub typhus testing services.

Chigger (larval mite) bites from infected animals propagate this illness. Fever and an area of inflamed black skin on the body termed a “eschar” are two of the illness’ typical symptoms. People are more susceptible to the virus if they often visit farms or forests.
