Servitors Welcome Decision To Install Puri Rath Yatra Chariot Wheels In Parliament Complex

The move on Sunday to put the wheels of three Puri Rath Yatra chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra in Delhi’s Parliament complex was warmly received by servants and devotees.

Somnath Khuntia, a servant at the shrine since the 12th century, told IANS that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had visited the temple a few days prior and received Lord Jagannath’s darshan. He prayed for everyone’s growth, wealth, and well-being. When he returned, the temple administration recommended that the wheels of the holy triad’s chariots be put in place and displayed at the Parliament. The Speaker accepted the proposal as well.

Additionally, he referred to the ruling as an honor for Odisha and its followers throughout the world. He said that adding complete chariot models rather than just the wheels will improve the shrine’s majesty and cultural portrayal from the 12th century. The wheels of the three chariots, Nandighosha, Debadalana, and Darpadalana, belonging to the holy brothers will shortly be mounted at the Parliament complex in New Delhi, marking a significant milestone. The “Temple of Democracy” will now symbolically embody Odisha’s spiritual legacy after Lok Sabha Speaker Birla approved a motion from the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration.

Informing about the approval by the Lok Sabha Speaker, the Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration, Arabinda Kumar Padhee, had posted on X, “The Lok Sabha Speaker, accompanied by other dignitaries, visited Shree Jagannatha Temple today, seeking Mahaprabhu’s blessings. We are deeply grateful to the Speaker for graciously agreeing to our proposal to install one wheel each from the three sacred chariots of Ratha Jatra at a prominent location within the Parliament premises.”
