Dr Biswajeet Pattanayak, Founder and President (Chancellor) ASBM University
In a country of over 1.3 billion people, it is not often that an individual rises to prominence as a beacon of knowledge and inspiration. Yet such a person is Dr Biswajeet Pattanayak, a noted management guru and the founder and President (Chancellor) of the Asian School of Business Management with campuses in Bhubaneswar and Hyderabad.
He is a towering figure in the realm of Human Resource Management and a preeminent guru of our time: Prof. Biswajeet Pattanayak, the founder and president of ASBM University. A veritable polymath, Prof. Pattanayak boasts of a Ph.D. and D.Litt. in Organizational Behavior, as well as a DSc. in Management Science, and holds the esteemed title of Fellow of the All India Management Association.
Over the course of a brilliant three-decade career, he has served in numerous illustrious positions, including Professor of IIM Indore and Lucknow, Director of the Indian Institute of Bank Management (an institution of the Reserve Bank of India), and Vice-Chancellor of KIIT Deemed University, before establishing ASBM in his home state of Odisha in 2006. Prof. Pattanayak’s exceptional expertise as a management educator, teacher, trainer, consultant, writer, and researcher has earned him widespread recognition.
Indeed, at the tender age of 35, he attained the rank of full professor at the Indian Institute of Management, and two years later, became Director of the Indian Institute of Bank Management run by the RBI, a truly remarkable achievement. The President of India has also appointed him as a member of the Courts of Central University of Rajasthan and Guru Ghasidas Central University, Chhattisgarh, and he serves as an advisor to the Union Public Service Commission. Furthermore, he is a mentor to the World Bank-assisted Center of Excellence in Human Capital Development at Utkal University.
Prof. Pattanayak’s prodigious output as a researcher is evidenced by the 103 research publications in national and international journals, as well as the 26 books to his name, including the globally best-selling “Creating Performing Organizations” and “Human Resource Management”. He has become known as the “LAGAAN Professor,” owing to his innovative teaching style, which involved incorporating the eponymous film into the curriculum of IIM Indore.
His eminence as a teacher was recognized in 2016, when he received the prestigious Teaching Excellence International Award from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs at Atlanta, USA, among the top ten management educators in the world. His accomplishments have been celebrated in numerous international reference works, including Reference India, Indo-European Who’s Who, Asian-American Who’s Who, Who’s Who in the
World (Marquis), Asia-Men and Women of Achievement, and the International Biographical Center’s Leading Scientist of the World.”
