Three months before the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match, the cost of tickets soars to Rs 1.86 crore

The ICC T20 World Cup, which begins on June 2, will be co-hosted by the United States of America and the West Indies. In addition, the eagerly anticipated game between Pakistan and India is still more than three months away. However, the eagerness and expectation around the big game have already intensified to a fever pitch. According to a source in USA Today, tickets for India’s matches against Canada (June 15 in Florida) and Pakistan (June 9 in New York) are sold out.

Tickets, however, are available on resale platforms like StubHub and SeatGeek at astronomical prices, with some being offered for Rs 1.86 crore! As per the ICC website link for ticket sales in the initial phase, minimum ticket price was Rs 497, while the highest-priced ticket was Rs 33,148, excluding taxes. The sport’s governing body mentioned that “no additional fees will be imposed beyond the specified taxes.”

With VIP seats available on one resale site for Rs 41.44 lakh, including an additional platform fee, those pledges have been completely disregarded. The most expensive ticket for the historic match is Rs 1.86 crore, including platform fees, on SeatGeek, while the cheapest ticket for the India-Pakistan match is Rs 1.04 lakh on StubHub. This ticket (Rs 57.15 lakh) is more than three times the most expensive one available in the secondary market for the India vs. Pakistan game during the ODI World Cup that was played in India last year.

These tickets have reached the resale market less than two weeks after the public ballot window for the 2024 T20 World Cup opened on February 22 and the first phase of ticket sales began. Additionally, ticket prices have soared to heights similar to those in the NBA or Major League Baseball as a result of the insane demand for some matchups. While courtside seats for the National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals cost over Rs 20 lakh, World Series tickets averaged Rs 91,175.
