Doctors have issued a warning about a new virus that is also causing Hand Foot Mouth Disease (HFMD) in India. At a time when the dagger known as Monkeypox is also hanging low, a study published in the Lancet Respiratory Journal has now warned of the rapidly increasing cases of HFMD cases among children in India. According to the study, the common infectious disease that primarily affects children aged one to five years old and immunocompromised adults may be a new variant of hand, foot, and mouth disease. According to the study, some case studies have even shown hand, foot, and mouth disease in immunocompetent adults. The infection is unrelated to tomatoes, but it gets its name from the reddish blisters it causes, which resemble tomatoes. On May 6, 2022, the tomato flu was discovered in Kerala’s Kollam district. According to the study, the tomato flu virus exhibits symptoms similar to Covid-19, but it is unrelated to SARS-CoV-2. Tomato fever in children could be an aftereffect of chikungunya or dengue fever rather than a viral infection, according to the Lancet study, which also noted that the flu is a self-limiting illness with no specific drug to treat it.The symptoms are similar to chikungunya, with a high fever, body ache, joint swelling, and fatigue. Some patients have also complained of nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, dehydration, swollen joints, and muscle aches.
