Tribal Women Struggle for Recognition Amid Shifting Livelihoods and Societal Challenges

Tribal people have always been sidelined since ages. The limelight has always primarily been focused on the mainstream part of society. The means of livelihood for tribal people have seen a sincere and sheer shift. There is a hair oil company which is run by tribal men and women, supposedly by the name of Adivasi hair oil, which promises to give strong and long hair. Tribal women are mainly accustomed to using handcrafts as a source of earning income.

Be it weaving baskets, or selling traditional and Indian crafts, that is how women earn money and support themselves.As per data, Indian tribal women constitute almost half of the total population and are less educated than men.

Moreover, they face problems related to reproductive health and risks. With primary and secondary subsistence activities which are taken into account, women, especially tribal women work harder than the tribal men in comparison.

Status of tribal women fluctuates in various tribal societies. There are various factors which are important in this scenario. Different tribal communities have their own ideologies and ideas. The position of tribal women can be categorized as married , unmarried , daughter , widow , divorcee and infertile women , but the ability to earn is common .
