According to Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, there appears to be a plot to discredit the administration behind the frequent collapse of bridges in Bihar.Jitan Ram Manjhi, the union minister for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSME), stated on Saturday that while the collapse of bridges in Bihar is a cause for concern, there appears to be a plot to malign the government. He said that the reason bridges are falling could be because poor quality building materials were employed, but two weeks ago everything was OK and now it’s starting to collapse.
“I believe this is part of a larger plot to discredit the government. There were no recorded bridge collapses in the state two months ago. Bridges are crumbling all the time now, and I think there’s a plot by a few people to discredit the government,” Manjhi remarked.
He further stated that the government is determined to start an investigation into the contractors and engineers in charge of building the bridges in Bihar.
Manjhi stated, “I know the state government is doing everything it can to make sure that these kinds of things don’t happen again.”Five bridges in the districts of Araria, Siwan, East Champaran, and Kishanganj in Bihar have collapsed in the past ten days. The most recent bridge collapse has been reported from the Madhubani district’s Bheja police station area. Madhubani district is located in the state’s northernmost region, close to the Nepali border. In Kishanganj, Bihar, a 13-year-old bridge partially collapsed on June 26, cutting off 40,000 residents from multiple villages and cutting them off from the mainland. Built in 2011 at a cost of ₹25 lakh as part of the Mukhyamantri Gramme Sadak Yojana, the 70-meter-long and 12-meter-wide bridge gave way to flooding brought on by persistent rain.
