A hybrid COVID-19 was produced through scientific study at Boston University (BU) in the US by fusing the Wuhan strain and Omicron. In a study, the mixture killed 80% of the mice it was tested on, making it extremely lethal.
This study was carried out by scientists, yet both scientists and medical professionals have expressed disapproval of it. Leading Israeli government scientist Professor Shmuel Shapira issued a warning to Boston University researchers not to experiment with altered virus research that hasn’t been observed by peers.
An early version of the study’s findings, in which researchers coupled the spike protein from the more contagious Omicron variation with a lab-made version of the original Covid-19 strain, were released last Friday. Omicron has shown to be less lethal than the alleged “wild form” of the virus, but it has propagated much more swiftly due to its improved ability to bypass immune defence. The new synthetic strain was somewhat less harmful than the original strain, killing 80% of mice exposed to it. However, according to the institution, it was not tested to see if it spread any faster than the original strain.
In response to the outcry over using a deadly and highly contagious virus for experimentation, BU guaranteed that there was no proof that the tests, which were conducted under biosecurity level 3 procedures, were done incorrectly or in a way that endangered the public’s health.
More than 300 US-funded civilian and military biological laboratories are located around the world, according to the head of the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, who also hinted that they are disproportionately concentrated in Ukraine.
Leading scientist Dr. Richard Ebright of Rutgers University thinks that when research is done, it helps us understand what goes wrong. Only then will we be able to prevent the following pandemic created in a lab.
