India became the first cricketing team to play 1000 ODI’s yesterday in the first match of the 3 ODI series against West Indies. The landmark achievement happened under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma who returned to the squad after an injury to resume as a full-time white-ball captain.
However, there was yet another record that was broken by former Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Even though Virat just scored 8 runs in 4 balls in the match yesterday, he became the quickest player to reach 5000 runs on home soil. He achieved the feat in just 96 innings, beating Sachin Tendulkar who achieved this feat in 121 innings.
India won yesterday’s match easily. While team India bundled out West Indies just for 176, with a quick-start from Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma, India chased down the target in 28 overs with 6 wickets to spare.
