The farming communities across the country need a facelift. While these communities have made the nation the grain bowl of the world, there is a constant need to bring parity in pay and prevent them from being exposed to the underbelly of nefarious activities that happen due to oversupply, hoarding and price fluctuations.

1. Farmers in India receive constant support from the Government schemes and make the most of it for their livelihoods
2. States with good market control, tend to provide farmers with the right price for each crop, however, there is a constant menace of the middleman
3. Farmer laws have been a discussion point in India for years and many of these laws were appended a few years ago, however, the government rescinded them and hence differential issues persist
4. Farmers in India continue to remain hand-to-mouth and hence their aspirations to use hi-tech machines and better fertilizers remain unfulfilled many times due to costs and lack of guidance
5. Some farming communities have created pacts with wholesalers to ensure their produce gets the best price, which can create disparities between members, leading to a man-eats-man phenomenon
How can the farming communities be helped?
Through guidance from NGOs, CSR firms and technology organisations supporting the rise of farmers’ livelihoods. Many enterprises host growing children and their farming-focused parents for workshops and sensitisation sessions about using new-age tech in farming while informing them about the pitfalls of pesticides. They are advised about sustainable farming practices and provide tools and tech at subsidized prices for quick adoption and improved tech spread among others in the farming community.
Farmers in India do have hope that the Government will provide them with the right medium and tools to grow crops, feed their families and place the nation on the global map as a sincere food producer for the world!
We, as a nation, are glad to be the grain bowl of the world and move in the direction of sustainable farming, with India’s farming community deeply in sync with the needs and demands of societies.
